The Middlebury Public Library is staffed by four full-time and four part-time employees and numerous volunteers. The Library’s hours are Monday and Friday 10am-5pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 10am-8pm, and Saturdays 10am-4pm and closed on Sundays. The Library is closed on Saturdays during the months of July and August plus major holidays.
Present holdings include more than 60,000 books, periodicals, films (DVD/VHS), CDs, activity bags, puzzles, etc. Plus an extensive Inter-Library-Loan system that will help you get almost any book that Middlebury does not have on their shelves. The Library has many special collections, including colleges/careers, parenting, large print books and a Connecticut History and Genealogy Room. The Library offers many family passes to area museums that are available for checkout. The Library also hosts programs, lectures and seminars which are available to the public.
The Library subscribes to many online databases that are available through the library’s homepage including downloadable audio books, Reference Usa, Ebsco magazine database, plus many more helpful research and personal interest sites at the Connecticut online database known as ICONN.org. All of these databases are accessible from home with the use of your library card and please explore our homepage for many more offerings.
Equipment available for use includes a photocopier with enlarging and reduction capabilities, 12 computer stations with unlimited Internet access, software (including educational, word processing and spread-sheets). Plus the Library just introduced Wireless access, which is accessible with a valid library card and your own wireless device.
Library programs include Story Hours for babies and caregivers and 2 to 5 year-olds, Adventure Hour for children ages 5 and up, seasonal programs, children's summer reading program, Adult book discussion groups, and winter travel lecture series. The Friends of the Library provides volunteer staff, helps with programming, and raises funds through an annual book sale and other activities throughout the year. The Library does hand out a monthly calendar that highlights all of the libraries activities so please make sure that you stop by and pick one up.
