The Planning & Zoning Commission is charged with the creation, revision, administration, and enforcement of the Subdivision Regulations and the Zoning Regulations. Planning Commission members are also responsible for revisions to the Middlebury Plan of Conservation & Development and review of proposals for municipal improvements. The purpose of this Commission, the Regulations, and the Plan is to guide the growth and development of the Town of Middlebury so as to promote beneficial and convenient relationships among residential, commercial, industrial, and public areas within the Town. This is achieved by considering the suitability of each area for its use and desirability for division after review of existing conditions, trends of population and mode of living, and future needs for various types of developments. The goal is to protect health, safety, value, and the environment of the Town’s residents while providing for public and commercial services.Any individual or entity proposing to develop property or revise regulations should visit or call the Land Use Office for guidance and preparation of required applications.
