The Department of Social Services offers a comprehensive program of services to meet the needs of all eligible residents. Programs and applications available through this office include:

Community Food Bank
Non-Perishable foods are collected by local organizations and donated to the Food Pantry for Middlebury residents in need of food and personal supplies.

Food Baskets for needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas are coordinated through this office.

The Needy Fund is an on-going program solely funded through donations by local community organizations and private citizens for the purpose of assisting families in an emergency situation.

Operation Fuel, privately funded, is available for persons unable to meet payments for heat or electric bills. Criteria for eligibility include income. The Connecticut. Energy Assistance program is available to all persons who meet income and asset guidelines. Applications for both programs are processed through this office.

Other applications processed through this office are the Renter’s Rebate Program, Homeowners Tax Credit Program and the Veterans Additional Exemption.

All health programs including weekly blood pressure screening and the Flu Shot Clinic are coordinated through this office.

Programs for persons to up-grade their property is available through the Homeowners Rehabilitation Program and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Applications are available through this office.

Assistance with Medicare, Medicaid, ConnPace, Medicare Prescription D, Social Security, Social Security Disability is also available through this office.

Referrals as assessed are made to all State and Federal Programs.

In addition to Social Services, a multi-purpose program is offered to our senior population. The Senior Center provides educational and recreational programs in addition to health based workshops. Such programs may be in the area of computer education, exercise programs of Tai Chi and Pilates as well as video based isometrics.
