Town of Middlebury - Zoning Board of Appeals

Zoning Enforcement Officer: Jean Donegan
Monday & Wednesday 9:00am - 12:00pm
Phone: 203-577-4162  Fax: 203-598-7640

The Zoning Board of Appeals has three responsibilities. These are to hear and decide appeals where it is alleged that there is an error in any order, requirement, or decision made by the Zoning Enforcement Officer; to hear, consider, and decide all matters that the zoning regulations may specifically require the Board to decide; and to determine and vary the application of the Zoning Regulations in harmony with the general purpose and intent, after due consideration for conserving the public health, safety, welfare, convenience, and property values of the general public. This power may only be exercised when a hardship exists created by unusual conditions of the specific property for which the owner is seeking a variance.

Any individual or entity that desires to appeal a decision of the Zoning Enforcement Officer should contact the Hearing Officer in the Land Use Office.

Any individual that might require a variance should contact the Zoning Enforcement Officer.
